Serpent River First Nation
Shwe Miikaan Corp. Executive Assistant
Ahnii Boozhoo: Jijak Awenesh Wii Aajim Waabun N’dizhnikaaz, Genabaajing N’donjabah, Ajijak N’dodem. My spirit name is ‘Crane who tells what’s to come’. I live in the Robinson-Huron Treaty Territory and am a member of the Crane Clan. I was raised in the traditional territory of Serpent River First Nation.
My English name is Jennifer Simpson and currently reside in Shawanaga First Nation, Ontario. My original career goal included police foundations. In 1998-99, I was enrolled in the Law and Security program at Georgian College when I lost the sight in my left eye. This ended any hope of becoming a front line police officer. I then spent time as an electricians apprentice and worked with a Certified Electrician rewiring houses in my home community. Eventually I returned to school and in 2004 graduated from Canadore College where I successfully completed the Office Administration program. Upon graduation, I was employed in my home community providing administrative assistance in Economic Development, Lands and eventually as Executive Assistant to the Political Office. I entered the Ontario Public Sector in 2007 as Administrative Assistant for the Aboriginal Relations Unit, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. In March 2016, I became the Aboriginal Geoscience Liaison for the Ontario Geological Survey, sharing geological information with First Nations regarding the ‘Earth beneath your feet’. Today; I will take all the knowledge I have gained to assist Shwe Miikaan Corporation achieve its goals; and meet the vision that three leaders brought forward for its members and the Anishinabek Nation.
